IRCC has announced significant Updates for Canadian International Student visa earlier in 2024. The Canada student visa is now facing multiple challenges. Briefly the changes will affect the number of students eligible to study in Canada, additional PAL requirements for Canada student visa, international students spouse visa in Canada, post study work permit and so on.

Several significant adjustments have been announced in an effort to guarantee the International Student Program in Canada’s sustainable expansion and improve the experience of international students. Let’s explore them:

1. Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL):

Most new international post-secondary students will need to submit their study permit application with a Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) from a province or territory as of January 22, 2024. This will contribute to maintaining a balanced approach to the intake of international students by ensuring that students are accounted for within the national cap. There are certain exceptions, so check if you qualify!

The provincial attestation letter is not ready yet for foreign students to start processing. If you are interested to study in Canada for undergraduate level all the universities requesting you to hold your admission process until end of the march 204.

2. Extended Permits for Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP)::

Beginning on February 15, 2024, graduates of master’s degree programs lasting fewer than two years will be eligible for a longer, three-year Post-Graduation Work Permit. This modification seeks to ease the transition to permanent residence while acknowledging their ability to strengthen Canada’s workforce.

More simple way to put this is now 1 years masters degree is also eligible for 3 years open post graduate work permit.

3. College Programs for Public-Private Partnerships:

Restrictions on Post-Graduation Work Permits for new students enrolling in public-private partnership college programs have been implemented in response to concerns about the quality of education and student assistance at these institutions. Present students are still eligible, with an emphasis on the caliber and support of the program. Find the list of public-private partnership colleges in Canada to avoid admissions. 4. Spouses’ Open Work Permits:

We will revise the status of foreign students’ spouses and common-law partners’ eligibility for open work visas. The spouses of students enrolled in other study levels will be impacted by changes, even though this stream is still available to individuals pursuing graduate and professional degrees.

These adjustments are in line with Canada’s objectives for sustainable growth and the recruitment of qualified workers into our workforce, with the goal of providing international students with a well-rounded and excellent educational experience.
